Description

Gentle gradations of color and a soft tactile quality define this chawan by Jyuzo Sato, crafted in the tradition of Shino ware. The pale glaze with a delicate blue shimmer and reddish inclusions shows the characteristic interplay between fire and clay that makes Shino vessels so distinctive. The fine porous structure lends the surface a lively quality and conveys depth as well as a subtle warmth.

The form is slightly irregular, with a gently rounded rim and a balanced proportion that fits perfectly in the hand. This deliberate imperfection is an expression of the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic – the beauty of the simple and the transient.

The chawan is delivered in a signed wooden box, confirming its authenticity. A piece of timeless elegance that brings calm and contemplative power to the tea ceremony.
