Description

This extraordinary kakemono depicts the Zen monk Bukan (Fenggan), companion of Kanzan and Jittoku, in an impressive, expressive brushwork. The artist captured the scene on paper with remarkable ease, conveying the master's profound spiritual serenity.

The depiction shows Zen Master Bukan in a calm, meditative posture, while a tiger with its cub rests at his feet – a symbol of tamed strength and spiritual clarity. The monochrome coloring with fine nuances gives the work a particular depth that is typical of traditional Zen painting.

The painting dates from the Showa period and was made with jikusaki of wood. It embodies the spirit of Zen philosophy and is ideal for lovers of Japanese art who want to give their space a contemplative, inspiring touch
