Description

This fascinating kakemono from the Meiji period depicts a koi rising powerfully against the current of the water – an image full of symbolism and grace. Captured in traditional ink painting on fine silk, the scene conveys not only movement but also the deep meaning of the koi as a symbol of perseverance, success, and transformation. The dynamic lines of the water and the tense posture of the fish inevitably draw the eye into the center of the composition.

The work bears the seal of Kano Masuyoshi Doichi and stands in the long tradition of the renowned Kano school, known for its masterful depictions of nature. The jikusaki made of wood complete the image in an elegant manner and underscore the high quality of this hand-painted one-of-a-kind piece. The finest nuances in ink and application of color make the scene appear vivid and testify to great artistic sensitivity.

This kakemono is excellently suited for collectors who appreciate the deep symbolism of Japanese art, or as an inspiring accent in rooms that seek to combine strength, elegance, and Far Eastern aesthetics. A piece that unites strength and beauty in a single expression.
