Description

In a relaxed pose, a young woman in a kimono reclines beside her shamisen, her gaze lost in thought, fixed on a small object in her hand - a scene full of quiet grace, as has characterized bijinga, the art of "beautiful women," for centuries. The vivid blue and soft green of the kimono create an appealing contrast to the golden background of the painting.

The elegant folds of the garment and the fine details of the elaborate hairstyle reveal the practiced hand of a painter devoted to classical Japanese genre painting. The resting musical instrument beside the figure suggests a moment of leisure, just before music fills the room.

The kakemono is executed on silk and is delivered including a wooden box. With its warm coloring and graceful composition, this unique work is especially suited for lovers of classical Japanese bijin depictions and lends any room a touch of historical flair.
