Description

Elegant and self-absorbed, the young woman in this kakemono gazes to the side, dressed in a dark kimono adorned with artfully brushed characters. On her head she wears a woven headpiece with orange-colored ribbons, a detail that lends the composition an almost festive character.

The painting was created in the Meiji period on fine silk and shows the meticulous care typical of the bijin-ga tradition in the depiction of facial features, fabric patterns, and posture. The jikusaki, made of bone, underscores the high-quality craftsmanship of this hand-painted unique work.

Images of beautiful women are among the most popular motifs in Japanese painting, uniting grace, fashion, and the spirit of a bygone era. Anyone who is enthusiastic about the aesthetics of old Japan will find in this kakemono an atmospheric testament to a craftsmanship of the past, one that serves as an outstanding eye-catcher for collectors and lovers of traditional art.
