Description
This impressive kakemono from the Meiji period shows two cormorants perched on a rock amid the turbulent sea. The waves breaking against the rock and the powerful brushstrokes lend the scene a dynamic and vivid atmosphere. The depiction of the birds radiates strength and determination, while the background suggests a soft, almost hazy landscape that opens onto distant hills.
The work is painted on fine rice paper and bears the stamp of the artist Kida Kado, a well-known name for sensitive depictions of nature. The Jikusaki made of wood underscores the traditional character of this piece and lends the kakemono an authentic frame.
This artwork is a remarkable example of Japanese landscape painting of the Meiji period, in which nature takes center stage in its powerful yet transient beauty. Ideal for collectors and lovers of traditional Japanese art who appreciate a piece of nature in its most original form.
