Description

With expressive power and elegant sweep, this impressive kakemono combines traditional aesthetics with a dynamic pictorial composition. The motif shows a stylized dragon rising forcefully out of the turbulent waves and ascending into mystical cloud formations. The masterfully placed ink strokes create a deep tension between movement and stillness, giving the artwork an almost magical attraction.

Although the painting bears two seals of the famous artists Kanō Yasunobu and Kanō Tanshin, the work's condition indicates that it should be attributed to the later Showa period. It can therefore be assumed that the painter – presumably a representative of the venerable Kanō school – intended these seals as a tribute to the two esteemed masters of the past.

This fascinating kakemono was made on high-quality paper and is stylishly complemented by fine wooden jikusaki. It lends itself as a powerful design element that combines traditional Japanese style with subtle, timeless elegance. For lovers and collectors of Japanese art and culture, it represents a unique piece that delights through its distinctive combination of artistic reference and independent aesthetic.
