Description

Above a rugged rocky outcrop, a gnarled tree clings to the stone, while in the autumn light a flock of birds crosses over the water. At the lower edge of the image, a solitary angler glides over the river in his small boat, a tranquil scene that speaks of the seasonal mood of late autumn. Delicate touches of orange suggest blossoms and foliage, setting a warm accent against the restrained ink drawing.

The painting was created in the Meiji period (1868–1912) in a free brushwork technique on paper and shows the combination of observation of nature and poetic condensation typical of Japanese landscape painting. At the top of the image is a calligraphic inscription with a red artist's seal, which lends the work a personal touch.

Mounted as a kakemono and fitted with a wooden handle, the hanging scroll can be hung in the classic manner and unfolds its calm effect in any room meant to be shaped by Japanese aesthetics. An atmospheric unique work for collectors of traditional painting.
