Kakemono Lady in Kimono Under Blossoming Plum Tree

Beneath the spreading branches of a blossoming plum tree and an old pine, a young woman stands in a splendid yellow kimono, her gaze turned slightly upward, as if following the scent of the delicate blossoms. The carefully worked pattern of the robe, the elaborate hairstyle, and the calm, introspective bearing of the figure are characteristic of Bijinga in its classical form: the woman as part of nature, embedded in the fleeting moment of spring.

The painting bears the signature and seal of Ito Shinsui (伊東深水), one of the most significant Bijinga painters of the Showa period. The composition combines his characteristic elegance in the depiction of figures with an atmospheric landscape scene of great emotional depth.

Painted on silk, mounted with jikusaki of bone and a light blue brocade border with a gold pattern, this hand-painted unique work is complemented by a signed wooden box – a work of exceptional artistic rank.
