Description

In delicate colors, a scenery unfolds before the viewer that celebrates the beginning of spring. The pink and white blossom branches of the plum symbolize renewal and beauty, while two small birds linger among the branches, lending the image a lively touch. The fine interplay of abundant blossoms and slender branches is clearly composed and yet full of lightness.

The work dates from the Showa period and was painted on silk, giving the coloring a particularly fine luminosity. It bears the seal of Koizumi Kōgetsu. The jikusaki made of wood also lend the hanging scroll a plain, natural mounting.

The depiction combines elegance and harmony in an impressive way. It is excellently suited to lending a room an atmosphere of calm, freshness, and classical beauty – a unique piece of Japanese art that carries within it the magic of nature.
