Description
A deep black lacquered tea container (O-Natsume), its body and lid entirely covered by a golden bamboo grove – a motif that appears especially rich due to its dense design spreading across the whole surface.
This Natsume comes from Keikan Tada.
The individual bamboo stalks are rendered in fine gold lacquer with varying shades, creating an impression of depth, while the narrow leaves sweep out in all directions, lending movement to the surface.
Bamboo is one of the most significant plant symbols of East Asia and stands for flexibility, endurance and upright character – qualities that are also regarded as virtues of the tea ceremony.
The container comes in a wooden box signed by the master and is suitable both for practical use in the tea ceremony and as a standalone collector's piece of fine makie lacquer art.
