Description

A tea container (O-Natsume) lacquered in warm reddish brown, with a bamboo grove rendered in fine gold lacquer extending over the entire body and lid – the rarer red lacquer ground gives this piece a particularly warm presence.

This Natsume was made by Reiho Sasaki.

The bamboo stalks are executed with varying line density, so that near and distant stalks can be clearly distinguished from one another – a small but effective illusion of depth. The contrast between the deep reddish brown of the lacquer ground and the radiant gold of the bamboo motif makes this Natsume a particularly vivid counterpart to the more commonly found black-grounded variants.

The container comes in a wooden box signed by the master and is suitable both for the tea ceremony and as a stand-alone collector's piece.
