Description
A jagged mountain range emerges from dense fog, at the foot of which a small hut seems to seek shelter among reeds and gnarled trees – a classic mountain landscape of the kind cultivated for centuries within the Kano school of Japanese painting. Strong, almost calligraphic brushstrokes form the reeds in the foreground, while the mountains create the spatial depth of the scene through soft, blending ink washes.
The painting bears the signature and seal of the painter Kano Tsunenobu, a name closely associated with the important Kano school of painting. It is executed on silk and was created in the Shôwa period; the scroll mounting is fitted with jikusaki ends made of bone.
This atmospheric landscape, titled Mountain Landscape with Hut, is suitable as wall decoration in the tokonoma as well as a cultivated, calm accent in a classically or modernly furnished living space.
