Description

This remarkable kakemono from the Meiji period captures a haunting scene in which a nocturnal robber is depicted in the gentle glow of moonlight. The robber is absorbed in a moment in which he helps himself from a purse, which impressively captures the tension and drama of the moment. The fine details and the vivid depiction emphasize the artist's skill and lend the work a fascinating dynamism.

The artwork was painted on silk and rounded off by a jikusaki made of wood, which underscores the traditional aesthetic. It is an impressive piece of Japanese art that draws the viewer into a mystical nighttime scene. An extraordinary highlight for any collection, uniting history and craftsmanship.
