Description
In soft light and delicate colors, this hand-painted kakemono opens up to the viewer a picturesque spring village, extending amid blossoming cherry trees and mysterious wisps of mist. The masterful composition lets the eye wander through an intricate landscape, past small houses, delicate trees, and figures capturing everyday village life. The delicate application of color on fine silk lends the scene an atmospheric depth that hovers between dream and reality.
The work bears the seal of Ozeki Keishu and dates from the Showa period. The high-quality jikusaki made of bone complement the traditional appearance and underscore the special value of this unique work. It is an impressive example of Japan's subtle landscape painting, in which nature and man come together in harmony.
