Description

With a gentle facial expression and closed eyes, an elegantly dressed woman in this kakemono holds a fan in her hand, while a child nestles against her kimono in front of her. Her elaborately pinned-up hair is adorned with a delicate ribbon ornament, a detail that further underscores the careful execution of the painting. The soft green and orange tones of the robe lend the scene a calm, maternal warmth.

The work was hand-painted on silk and is delivered in a specially signed wooden box, which underscores the special quality of this unique work.

Depictions of mother and child are among the most touching motifs of Japanese bijin-ga painting, combining beauty with familial affection. This finely painted kakemono is excellently suited for lovers of classical Japanese portrait art who are looking for an atmospheric, emotionally moving work for their collection.
