Description
Among wildflowers, ears of grain, and delicate foliage, three little sparrows gather in different postures – pecking, looking, resting – forming a lively, almost anecdotal scene. The fine feather drawing and the restrained, earthy color palette lend the motif a natural, unhurried atmosphere, characteristic of classical Japanese bird and meadow painting.
The hanging scroll bears the signature and seal of the painter Tosai Shishin and was hand-painted on silk during the Shôwa period. It is delivered including the accompanying wooden box, which served to store and protect the artwork and at the same time attests to its careful preservation over the decades.
Thanks to its cheerful, everyday motif, this kakemono is suitable for the tokonoma all year round, bringing an unobtrusive, nature-connected mood to the room. For collectors of traditional Japanese bird painting, this unique work is a charming addition.
