Description
A pair sits harmoniously on a blossoming branch – a pictorial motif that has long stood in Japanese painting for marital harmony and the reawakening of nature in spring. The two birds with their reddish plumage are carefully worked out in detail, while the blossoms in vivid red and the leaves in rich green enliven the picture.
Painted on fine silk, this work combines delicate coloring with precise linework, characteristic of decorative bird-and-flower painting. It was created in the Heisei period (1989–2019) and testifies that this centuries-old pictorial tradition has remained alive into the present.
The handle of the hanging scroll is made of wood, the mounting is kept classic and allows the lively motif to come into its own. A friendly, colorful kakemono that is well suited as a decorative highlight for lovers of Japanese painting.
