Description

This masterfully executed calligraphy by Tachibana Ryoan bears the inscription "松樹千年翠" (Shōju Sennen no Midori), which roughly translates to "The pine stays green for a thousand years." This expression carries deep symbolic meaning in East Asian philosophy and represents longevity, steadfastness, and unshakable inner strength.

The script is executed with dynamic, confident brushstrokes on high-quality paper and is complemented by a jikusaki made of wood. The elaborate mounting underscores the elegance of this Showa-period calligraphy.

In Japan and China, the pine is an emblem of endurance, as it preserves its vitality even under the harshest conditions. This calligraphy expresses this powerful message in visual form – ideal for lovers of traditional Japanese art or as an inspiring decorative piece for a stylish setting.
