Description
A curved wooden bridge crosses a calm waterway, lined with brilliant red and golden-yellow maple trees, while in the background a thatched-roof house with a water wheel and distant villages blur into a soft haze. The warm palette of orange, red, and yellow tones captures the atmospheric mood of a Japanese autumn day, in which man and nature come together in harmony.
The hanging scroll bears the signature and seal of the painter Momori Okamoto and was hand-painted on silk during the Meiji period. It is delivered including the signed wooden box, which further documents the provenance and the careful handling of the work across generations.
With its richly detailed, narrative composition, this kakemono is excellently suited to bringing a warm, rural mood into the home in autumn, but thanks to its painterly quality it also unfolds its appeal year-round. For collectors of classical Japanese landscape painting, this unique work is a particularly appealing example.
