Description

A massive wild boar lies relaxed on the ground, its heavy body slightly tilted to the side, the bristles rendered in detail in finely graduated shades of gray and brown. The small eyes gaze watchfully, yet calmly, while bare branches with a few remaining yellow-brown leaves sway above it, immersing the scene in an autumnal stillness. This atypical and rare motif sets the kakemono apart from classical nature depictions and lends it a special, almost introspective aura.

The work bears the signature and seal of Saegusa Soko. Painted on silk, it unfolds a subtle palette of gray, brown, and yellow tones that make the animal's fur appear velvety and the leaves dry and fragile. The precise brushstrokes lend the wild boar a tangible presence and depth.

The jikusaki made of bone frame the piece in a classic and refined manner. It comes with a signed wooden box. This hand-painted unique work brings an unusual, powerful note of Japanese animal depiction into any room and appeals especially to collectors who appreciate rare motifs with high painterly quality and natural dignity.
