Description
A graceful swallow with long, forked tail feathers has settled on a delicately leafed branch, gazing attentively to the side, while fine, calligraphic brushstrokes on the left form an accompanying inscription. The fresh green of the leaves and the reduced, light coloring lend the scene a light, summery quality typical of the bird painting of the Kachô-ga tradition.
The hanging scroll bears the signature and seal of the painter Kasen and was hand-painted on paper during the Shôwa period. It is delivered including the accompanying wooden box, which served to protect and properly store the delicate artwork.
With its airy, understated pictorial language, this kakemono is well suited as a quiet accent in the tokonoma or in a bright living space. For collectors of Japanese bird painting with a fine sense for delicate, poetic motifs, this hand-painted unique work is a fitting choice.
