Description

This set of celadon ware in the style of Korean Goryeo celadon (Kōrai seiji) brings together a whole ensemble for sake culture: five small guinomi cups and two matching tokkuri flasks, all with the same turquoise-gray, crackled celadon glaze and inlaid white-and-black cranes. It is precisely this uniformity that gives the cohesive set its special appeal.

The celadon of Korea's Goryeo dynasty is regarded as one of the most accomplished ceramics of East Asia; highly prized in Japan as Kōrai seiji, it is still emulated today, especially with inlaid crane décor. Sets like this one reflect the long tradition of convivial sake drinking, in which different vessels are used together. This set is delivered in a wooden box signed by the Shōryū-gama workshop (正龍窯). As a handcrafted ensemble, it is ideal for convivial sake gatherings and, at the same time, an evocative collector's piece of Japanese ceramic art.
