Description

Delicate cherry blossoms open on a gnarled branch, their pale petals and bright yellow stamens setting soft accents against the golden-toned background. At the lower edge of the picture, the beginning of a small bird can be made out, lending additional life to the scene.

This hanging scroll was executed in the Shôwa period in hand painting on paper; the jikusaki is made of wood and blends harmoniously into the classic mounting of the hanging scroll.

The cherry blossom is one of the best-known motifs of Japan and stands for beauty, new beginnings, and the transience of the moment. With its light, buoyant visual language, this work is excellently suited to bringing a touch of Japanese spring mood and traditional painting art into one's own rooms and delighting lovers of delicate nature motifs.
