Description
With a single, powerful stroke of the brush, the enso emerges – the open circle of Zen calligraphy, which for centuries has stood for emptiness, perfection, and the eternal cycle of becoming. On this hanging scroll, the gesture is captured in dark ink, irregular in stroke, and precisely for that reason full of vitality.
The circle is accompanied by a sweeping line of calligraphy in confident, flowing strokes, lending the sheet additional depth. The work bears the signature and seal of the calligrapher Adachi Taido and was created in the Shôwa period; painted on paper, it is framed by a jikusaki of wood, giving the hanging scroll an unobtrusive, traditional finish.
The reduced, almost meditative visual language makes this hanging scroll an ideal focal point for quiet rooms or a place of contemplation. Those who value the quiet power of classical Japanese Zen art will find in this hand-painted unique work a timeless means of expression, marked by clarity and inner balance.
