Description

A kingfisher looks down head-first from its perch on a weathered wooden post, as if it had just spotted something in the water. The delicate green and beige tones of its plumage are rendered with a confident hand, lending the bird an almost lifelike presence.

This kakemono was hand-painted on paper during the Shôwa period, and the jikusaki is made of wood. The hanging scroll is delivered in a matching wooden box, which offers the work additional protection.

The kingfisher is one of the most popular motifs in Japanese bird painting and symbolizes skill and concentration. With its reduced yet extremely precise visual language, this hand-painted unique work is excellently suited for collectors who are enthusiastic about the fine powers of observation in Japanese nature painting and are looking for an expressive bird motif.
