Description

In an elegant arc, this golden-shimmering koi leaps from the water, its mouth slightly open, its fins spread wide. Fine scale lines set with a confident hand and a gentle gradation from a dark back tone to a light belly give the fish an almost three-dimensional plasticity, while delicate splashes in the background suggest the water.

The leaping koi is one of the most popular auspicious motifs in Japanese art and stands for vigor, courage, and the will to overcome obstacles. The clear pictorial composition, which focuses entirely on the fish, makes this motif appear especially powerful and immediate.

Painted on silk, with a jikusaki made of plastic, this hand-painted unique work was created in the Shôwa period. It is an expressive choice for anyone who wants to give their home a special touch with an energetic, symbolically charged motif.
