Description
Against a luminous gold background, a lushly blooming cherry blossom branch unfolds here – numerous white blossoms with delicate red centers cover the dark branches, leaving hardly any bare spot of the background visible. This dense, decorative arrangement recalls the classical Rimpa tradition of Japanese painting with its predilection for gold and stylized nature motifs.
Sakura, the cherry blossom, has always been regarded in Japan as a symbol of transience and the fleeting beauty of spring, and is celebrated every year with the Hanami festival. The motif is painted on silk, whose fine texture lends the blossoms additional luminosity.
The jikusaki at the ends of the roller rods is made of wood, and the kakemono from the Shôwa period is delivered in its own wooden box. For lovers of decorative Japanese painting, this radiant hanging scroll, Lush Cherry Blossoms Against a Gold Background, is a particularly striking choice.
