Description

This unique kakemono from the Showa period shows a curious monkey reaching out from a climbing plant to grasp a ripe persimmon fruit. The lively depiction of the monkey in motion and the delicate, flowing lines of the plant lend the work a dynamic yet harmonious appeal. The brightly colored orange fruits provide a gentle accent of color within the otherwise subdued composition.

The image was painted on paper and bears the seal of the artist Shungai, known for his fine brushwork and his affection for depicting nature. The jikusaki made of wood completes this kakemono and emphasizes its traditional character.

This work is an outstanding example of the connection between nature and the animal world in Japanese art and is ideally suited for collectors and lovers of Japanese painting. It brings a playful yet peaceful atmosphere to your collection or living space.
