Description

This elaborately designed kakemono dates from the Shôwa period and depicts a magnificent pheasant with a bright red face and iridescent, orange-green patterned plumage standing on a moss-covered rock. Its long, banded tail cascades over the stone in elegant curves, while a second, lighter-colored pheasant can be seen in the lower part of the image.

Above the rock, a flowering cherry tree opens its delicate pink and white blossoms, complemented by pink lilies at the base of the stone – a classic combination of spring blossoms and proud plumage symbolizing prosperity and beauty. The painting bears the signature of Mano Kamura.

This kakemono comes in a wooden box and is painted on silk, mounted in delicate, blue-green patterned silk fabric with roller rods made of ceramics. A particularly detailed, richly colored unique work of Japanese bird-and-flower painting.
