Description
A small sparrow sits attentively on a slender branch, looking down at two delicately painted, light orange chrysanthemum blossoms surrounded by soft, gray-green leaves. The calm, almost floating composition with generous open space lends the scene a particular lightness and stillness.
The combination of bird and chrysanthemum is a classic autumn motif in Japanese painting, symbolizing longevity, modesty, and the quiet beauty of the transitional season. The fine, glazing layers of color and the sparing use of ink for the outlines attest to great painterly sensitivity.
The picture is executed on paper, the jikusaki is made of wood, created in the Shôwa period. It is excellently suited for anyone seeking a quiet, poetic nature motif with an autumnal mood.
