Description
The glaze of this sake bottle presents itself in a delicate grayish-white with softly shifting shades, its finely thrown body flowing into an elegantly flared neck. Fine, barely visible throwing lines bear witness to the careful work at the potter's wheel.
Kyo ware, named after the former imperial capital of Kyoto, traditionally combines the most diverse techniques and is considered particularly demanding precisely because of this variety. In this Tokkuri, rather than bold painting, pure form and the restrained, shifting glaze take center stage – an aesthetic that requires extensive experience in working with clay and firing.
The piece was made by Koun Miyagawa (宮川香雲), whose signature affirms the quiet elegance of the bottle. The Tokkuri is delivered in a wooden box signed by the master potter, offering the unique work a fitting setting for storage.
