Description

The scene appears playful and lively, showing two small sparrows sitting close together on a gnarled branch while delicate white-pink cherry blossoms open above them. The fine feather drawings of the birds and the delicate petals attest to great painterly precision, while the warm, shimmering silk ground lends the picture a calm, friendly note – a motif that captures Japan's brief, celebrated spring.

The work bears the signature and seal of the painter Asami Kashiro and was hand-painted on silk during the Shôwa period. It is delivered including the signed wooden box, which additionally documents the provenance and authenticity of the hanging scroll.

As a kakemono, this unique work is wonderfully suited to celebrating the cherry blossom season in the tokonoma in spring, but its cheerful motif also unfolds its charm outside of this season. Collectors and lovers of Japanese bird and blossom painting will find here a particularly lovingly crafted piece.
