Description

With lowered head and tensed legs, a wild boar charges across the picture field in dynamic motion – a motif that in Japan is considered a symbol of courage, determination, and impetuous strength. The powerful, almost sketch-like ink painting with its broad, energetic brushstrokes vividly captures the wildness and speed of the animal.

The deliberate omission of color and background detail draws the eye entirely to the anatomy and movement of the boar, whose fur appears three-dimensional through fine, dry brushstrokes. A signature with a red seal at the lower edge of the image confirms the authorship; the work itself dates from the Meiji period and was executed on paper.

The hanging scroll with wooden roller ends is delivered including a wooden box, on which the character for wild boar is noted. An expressive collector's item for enthusiasts of classical Japanese animal painting.
