Description

With a loose, confident brushstroke, bamboo rises above a single, roundly painted rock – a reduced yet highly effective motif of classical ink painting. The varying gray tones of the ink lend the leaves an almost tangible lightness.

An accompanying calligraphic inscription with a red artist's seal frames the composition and points to the close connection between painting and poetry in the literati tradition of East Asia. The Kakemono was created in the Shôwa period (1926–1989) on paper.

The Jikusaki made of bone completes the careful classical mounting. A stylish hanging scroll for lovers of reduced, calligraphically inspired ink painting.
