Description
A small bird with brightly colored turquoise plumage sits attentively on a gnarled branch of a persimmon tree, rendered in soft shades of gray. The contrast between the delicate blue-turquoise of the bird and the restrained ink drawing of the branches lends the composition a particular lightness, while the sparse, deliberately placed coloring leaves the image with a great sense of calm and spaciousness.
The hanging scroll bears the signature and seal of the painter Umeseki Kawashima and was hand-painted on silk during the Shôwa period. It is delivered including the accompanying wooden box, which served for proper storage and protection of the delicate artwork.
With its clear, almost minimalist visual language, this kakemono fits well into a restrained, understated interior and unfolds a particularly calm effect in the tokonoma. For lovers of Japanese bird painting with a reduced color palette, this hand-painted unique work is a fitting choice.
