Description

A single, powerfully executed brushstroke forms the Enso here, the famous circle of Zen calligraphy that symbolizes perfection, emptiness, and the eternal cycle of becoming. The open section of the circle traditionally stands for the incompleteness and impermanence of all being, while the dynamic, spontaneous brushwork makes visible the meditative moment of creation. A red artist's seal in the upper right completes the composition.

The calligraphy was executed by hand on paper during the Shôwa period and shows the reduction to the essential that is typical of Zen art. The hanging scroll is delivered including the accompanying wooden box, which served to store and protect the delicate paper.

As a classic Zen motif, this kakemono is excellently suited for the tokonoma in a tea room or for quiet, meditative spaces where it invites contemplation. For collectors and lovers of Japanese calligraphy, this hand-painted unique work is a timeless, expressive piece.
