Kakemono Calligraphy "Cloud"

A single character, set with a powerful, broad brushstroke across the entire width of the image – the character for "cloud," accompanied by a small red seal in the upper right. The calligraphy captivates through its dynamic style: thick, almost drop-like strokes alternate with faster, thinner lines, giving the character itself something floating, drifting, reminiscent of the formal character of an actual cloud.

The motif "cloud" in Zen calligraphy often stands for mutability and the transience of all phenomena, but also for the expansiveness and freedom of the mind – themes that are especially valued in teahouse culture. As a hanging scroll with a single, powerful character, this work is excellently suited for a restrained, understated tokonoma or as an eye-catcher in a room defined by clarity and reduction.
