Description
Expressive calligraphy in flowing cursive script defines this hanging scroll, its characters running across the pale paper in dynamic sweeps. A small red seal completes the composition and points to the hand of the writer.
As with many Japanese calligraphies of this kind, a philosophical statement intended to inspire reflection stands at the center here as well. Such sayings were often chosen as an expression of wisdom, discipline, or inner calm and were considered fitting decoration for studies or reception rooms.
The work dates from the Shôwa period, is painted on paper, and is fitted with roller rods made of plastic. It is delivered in a signed wooden box, which provides additional protection and lends the piece a special touch. A stylish kakemono for anyone enthusiastic about the expressive power of Japanese calligraphy.
