Description

With powerful earthiness and a striking surface texture, this chawan by Takamichi Kato is crafted in the tradition of Seto ware. The glaze captivates with warm ochre and red tones that settle over the roughly worked surface, highlighting fine cracks and depressions. This creates a lively interplay of color, light, and relief that makes the energy of the firing process palpable.

The irregular shaping underscores the handcrafted character and lends the vessel an archaic, almost sculptural presence. In its expressive surface, the spontaneous gesture of the potter merges with the controlled randomness of the fire – a central principle of Japanese ceramic art.

The chawan is accompanied by a signed wooden box that confirms its authenticity and provenance. An impressive example of contemporary Seto aesthetics that unites depth and naturalness.
