Description
Delicate, finely painted blossoms line the slender branches of a tree branch that extends diagonally across the entire pictorial surface of this kakemono. The reduced palette of black and muted gold gives the scene an old-masterly, almost graphic effect that emphasizes the natural growth of the branches.
At the lower edge of the image is a calligraphic inscription with dating and seal, which lends the work additional historical depth. The scene is painted on paper, whose warm patina of age makes palpable the decades that this hanging scroll has already lived through. Please note that the mounting of the kakemono shows damage in several places, which, however, does nothing to diminish its antique character.
The jikusaki at the ends of the roller rods is made of wood. This kakemono from the Meiji period is a piece with visible history and is particularly suited to collectors who appreciate the charm of aged Japanese painting.
