Description
With impressive energy and flowing movement, this hand-painted kakemono from the Showa period depicts a dragon rising from a massive wave. The bold brushstrokes and skillful use of color gradients on fine silk lend the scene a dramatic depth. The dragon, a symbol of strength, protection, and prosperity, winds powerfully through the masses of water, drawing the viewer immediately into its spell.
The work bears the seal of Yoshiyama and impresses through a masterful combination of traditional symbolism with a modern, expressive design. The sweeping composition conveys movement and rhythm, while details such as scales, eyes, and claws are precisely worked out. The jikusaki made of bone underscore the high quality of this one-of-a-kind piece and blend harmoniously into the overall image.
Whether as a central artwork in a room or as part of an exquisite collection of Japanese painting – this kakemono combines the fascination of mythical pictorial motifs with the powerful aesthetics of the Showa period, embodying timeless dynamism and elegance.
