Description
On fine paper, framed by an elaborately woven gold brocade border, the complete text of the Heart Sutra (Hannya Shingyo) is set down here in even, uniform handwriting. The characters are rendered with a confident hand, without hesitation or correction, which testifies to the concentration and practice of the writer.
The sutra is among the central texts of Mahayana Buddhism and is copied out to this day in temples and by private individuals as a spiritual exercise. The elaborate gold brocade of the frame stands out against the plain surface of the paper and lends the hanging scroll a solemn, almost sacred effect. The jikusaki at the ends of the roller rods is made of wood.
This kakemono is suited for anyone interested in Japanese calligraphy, Buddhist textual culture, or the quiet aesthetics of traditional hanging scrolls, and brings a touch of monastic calm into any room.
