Description

Several gnarled, towering pines cling to rugged rock outcrops, while a small waterfall cascades into the depths below – a dramatic, powerful scene of nature full of movement and tension.

The strong, expressive brushwork of the twisting branches and rugged rock formations attests to great painterly skill, while an extensive calligraphic inscription along the upper edge of the image lends the work additional literary depth. Painted on silk, this kakemono was created in the Shôwa period (1926–1989).

The wooden jikusaki rounds off the classic mounting harmoniously. An expressive hanging scroll for collectors who appreciate powerful mountain landscapes in Japanese ink painting.
