Description

Between densely inked, rugged rocks and shadowy stands of trees, a waterfall plunges into the depths, while a small figure dressed in blue walks along the steep path at the right edge of the image. The bold, dark ink areas of the vegetation contrast impressively with the brightly reserved areas of the cascading water.

Waterfall depictions are among the most popular landscape motifs of Japanese and Chinese-influenced ink painting: they symbolize the purifying, unstoppable force of nature and invite the viewer to a contemplative mountain hike within the image.

Painted on paper and fitted with a jikusaki of wood, this hand-painted unique work from the Shôwa period is delivered including a signed wooden box – an atmospheric landscape for lovers of classical ink painting.
