Description

Between towering bamboo stalks and gnarled trees, a small thatched-roof hut hides on the bank of a tranquil river – a scene that captures the longing for a simple life amid untouched nature and virtually invites the viewer to pause and rest.

In delicate gray and brown tones with occasional reddish accents in the distant hills, the painter unfolds a multilayered composition that extends from dense vegetation in the foreground to gently blurring mountain ranges on the horizon. The work dates from the Shôwa period, is painted on paper, and bears jikusaki ends made of plastic.

River landscapes with rural dwellings are among the timeless themes of sansui painting, as they emphasize the harmonious interplay of man and nature. This kakemono is excellently suited for anyone who appreciates a calm, narratively rich landscape depiction.
