Description
A kakemono with a calligraphy by the Daitoku-Ji Ryugenin priest Ueda Gizan, who lived between 1891 and 1972. Written on paper with a mounting of paper and silk brocade. The kakejiku shows age-related spots and discoloration as well as a few small creases in the picture area. Both jikusaki made of lacquered wood are present and intact. The calligraphy reads in Romaji as "Buji Kore Kinin". This is a saying by the Zen master Rinzai, which roughly translates to "He who does not seek satori (enlightenment) somewhere outside (beyond himself) is noble (rare)". This kakemono comes in a wooden box (Tomobako) signed by the artist.
