Description

A slender crescent moon hangs quietly above tall ornamental grasses bent in the wind, among which small red clover blossoms shimmer through – one of the most evocative combinations of the classical Japanese autumn motifs (aki no nanakusa), capturing the transience and quiet beauty of the season. A single dark bird flies low over the grasses, reinforcing the impression of a peaceful autumn evening.

Painted with a few softly flowing ink lines and delicate accents of color on paper, the work unfolds an almost lyrical restraint, in which ample empty space is deliberately employed as a compositional device. The signature and red seal at the lower edge of the image attribute it to the Shōwa period.

The mounting in soft green with a subtle cloud pattern and wooden rollers underscores the calm overall mood of the painting. A poetic kakemono for all who appreciate simple, nature-inspired motifs and wish to bring a touch of quiet Japanese autumn atmosphere into their own home.
