Description
This ink painting panorama of a bustling river mouth was created during the Shôwa period; along its banks, villages and houses nestle between rugged cliffs and dense vegetation. Numerous boats and junks populate the water, while gentle mountain ranges blur into the haze in the background.
The composition follows the tradition of Sansui landscape painting, in which expanse and depth are created through skillfully placed veils of mist. Fine details such as individual roofs, trees, and watercraft attest to the painter's keen powers of observation.
Painted on paper and fitted with a jikusaki made of bone, this kakemono combines artistic finesse with a high-quality classical mounting. An evocative landscape depiction for lovers of traditional East Asian painting.
