Description

In fluid, energetic script, the characters of this calligraphy spread across the entire surface of the image, with the final column ending in a particularly dynamic flourish. Translated, the inscription means roughly "resilience and success are inherent in every person from the very beginning" – an encouraging thought that conveys confidence in one's own inner strength.

In the lower right, a dedication line and the calligrapher's signature can be seen, accompanied by two red seals that lend the work its authenticity. Such maxims were traditionally created in Japan as gifts for important stages of life, to give the recipient courage and confidence for the path ahead. Painted on paper during the Shôwa period, the hanging scroll is bordered by a dark woven trim with a light-colored mat and mounted on a wooden rod.

This calligraphy kakemono combines powerful brushwork with a deeply positive message and is therefore wonderfully suited as a gift or as a personal image of strength for one's own living or working space.
